A yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been issued for the county, lasting from 12pm on Saturday, January 4 until 11.59pm on Sunday, January 5.
The public has been warned that road and rail travel could be disrupted while power cuts are also possible.
But a more serious amber alert for the same conditions covers much of the midlands and as far down as Cirencester, with Swindon at least likely to see a more adverse version of the weather than elsewhere.
With snow and sleet now starting to fall across Wiltshire Devizes Police have taken to Facebook and warned residents to only travel if necessary.
The post reads: “Snow is in the forecast until roughly midnight tonight then rainy conditions.
“The roads are incredibly skiddy out there tonight so please take care & only travel if necessary.
“Stay safe and enjoy it while it lasts.”
Wiltshire Police have taken to Facebook to re-issue advice.
A spokesperson said: “The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice across Wiltshire until late Sunday night, potentially causing difficult driving conditions on our roads. If you need to travel during adverse weather conditions, take extra care and give yourself plenty of time for your journey.
“Motorists: Before setting off, take the time to make sure your windscreen is completely clear. Clear any ice or snow, fully demist the inside of your windscreen and ensure any snow is removed from your roof. Don’t forget your lights, wing mirrors and side/back windows to ensure they are also clear.
“When driving, reduce your speed, keep well back from the vehicle in front and allow plenty of time to slow down. Use your lights in dull weather conditions.
“Pedestrians: Take extra care when walking, even on roads/paths which have been treated. Think about your visibility and ensure other road users can see you.”
