Sunbathers were sent into a frenzy after a shark swam up close to the shore on a popular Spanish beach.
This comes just days after a German was killed in a horror shark attack in the Canary Islands and now another shark has appeared but this time on a Costa Blanca beach.
The blue shark, which caused a stir on Denia beach in Alicante, prompted lifeguards to evacuate the water and raise a red flag to ban swimming and bathing.
Onlookers stared in disbelief as the surreal scene took place with the shark’s presence installing fear among eyewitnesses.
However, one furry four legged animal decided to be brave and jumped in the water to confront the shark.
Squeals of “no doggy” could be heard as little by little the dog edged closer to the blue shark.
People quickly rushed online to question why the dog was allowed to run into the sea.
One commented “And the shark’s owner doesn’t do anything?” whilst another said “I would be crying if that were my dog”.
Fortunately blue sharks are not known to eat humans and was unaware of the dog’s presence with the animal instead opting for small fish, mackerel and squid.
They are known to be curious and might approach boats or divers out of curiosity, but attacks on humans are extremely rare.
Blue shark’s can be found in various waters across the globe including Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans.
This is not the only shark to wash up on the shores of Alicante this year, in January, a two-metre-long shark was found on Playa del Rihuete beach in Puerto de Mazarron near Alicante.
The creature was found getting into trouble in shallow waters by the beach with blood dripping from its teeth.
After it was found struggling, beachgoers tried to save the shark and attempted to push the 200kg predator back into the sea – but it sadly died.
The local council was called to remove the shark, and a day later, workers disposed of the shark at a rubbish dump.
