Pilot shares best day of the week for booking a cheap flight

A pilot has revealed the best time and day of the week for people to book a cheap flight as the summer holidays get underway.

The pilot revealed that the best time to book flight tickets was on Sunday evening as the most effective way to “navigate airline pricing algorithms”.

They added that this was because airlines reset their booking systems on Sundays which sometimes leads to fair changes based on the trends of that week.

The pilot explained that this reset can sometimes lead to lower fairs as airlines try to be more competitive compared to rivals.

The pilot told travel tour operator Ski Vertigo: “Booking flights on Sunday evenings is not just about catching lower prices; it’s also a strategic move to navigate airline pricing algorithms.

“Airlines typically reset their booking systems on Sundays, often leading to fare adjustments based on the week’s demand and occupancy trends.

“This reset can result in fare drops as airlines aim to balance seat availability with competitive pricing. For travellers, this means a window of opportunity where they might find flights that are not only affordable but also offer a wider range of seat options.”

The pilot added that as well as allowing passengers to navigate the pricing algorithms of the airlines it also allowed them to avoid times when prices would spike reported the Liverpool Echo.

They explained: “Beyond the immediate savings, Sunday evening bookings allow travellers to avoid the mid-week price hikes often caused by last-minute business travel bookings and mid-week vacation planners.

“This time slot is less congested, making it easier to spot and secure deals without the rush and stress of peak booking times.”

Alongside booking flights on Sunday evening other travel experts have other recommended ways of getting a good deal on travelling abroad. Bountii’s Jason Higgs recommended utilising deal websites, checking prices 24 hours before you fly, booking one-way flights, being flexible and signing up for hotel and airline newsletters.

Mr Higgs explained: “Spontaneous travel doesn’t mean compromising on quality or blowing your budget. With the right strategies, like leveraging deal websites and being flexible with your plans, you can uncover amazing bargains and enjoy the thrill of unexpected journeys.”
