Plans to rebuild pitches at Grimsby sports ground

Must read

Plans have been unveiled for new artificial pitches for football, netball and other activities to be installed at Grimsby sports ground.

The facility at Kent Street was bought by the YMCA from North East Lincolnshire Council last year.

The charity has refurbished a skate park and changing rooms and now intends to rebuild a multi-use games area (MUGA).

Fundraising is underway to transform two existing pitches into three artificial playing surfaces.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, a YMCA spokesperson said the aim was to bring the site “back to its former glory”.

The spokesperson added if a funding application was successful the new 2G and 3G pitches would “host a variety of local clubs and schools, to be able to play hockey, netball, futsal and other multi sports, and one 3G pitch for the local community to get active and seek new recreational activities”.

The Kent Street site development comes as YMCA Humber expands the facilities it runs elsewhere in the borough.

Earlier this summer, tt was granted an initial five-year lease by the council to run the new Clee Fields facilities.
