pH Innovate Group, an insurtech company that employs more than 100 people from its headquarters in Pontypool, hosted Torfaen MP Nick Thomas-Symmons at its offices to share insights about the business and its growth plans.

Founded in 2018 by Stephen Peck and David Harlow, the Group is made up of three businesses – motoring insurance broker Quote Detective, insurance technology company Next Venture Technologies and taxi and courier insurance comparison service Quote the Market.

Collectively the business employs around 110 people at the Group headquarters in Mamhilad Park Estate with 90% of its staff living in the NP4 or NP44 postcode areas.

Nick Thomas-Symmons MP visited the business to hear about its success so far and also to learn more about the Group’s expansion plans and how he can support the business as its local MP.

Stephen Peck, founder and Director of pH Innovate, said: “It was great to show our local MP around the business and explain to him both the challenges we face as well as the successes we have had so far.

“We are committed to Pontypool and Torfaen as a business and would like to work with the local authority and other public bodies on creating a fintech centre of excellence here at Mamhilad Park estate.”

Stephen explained: “The workforce we have here is second to none and that’s why, as a business, we have invested our own money in training people to join pH Innovate. Many come to us with no qualifications, and we have trained them in everything from computer coding, data analysis and as chartered insurers. We need all of these skills and find that investing in our own internal training has really paid dividends for us as a business.”

Torfaen MP Nick Thomas-Symmons said of his visit: “I was delighted to visit pH Innovate which is another important local employer in Torfaen.

“It was great to hear of their growth over the past few years, and it’s a testament to the hard work of staff that they were awarded Financial and Professional Business of the Year as well as Employer of the Year in this year’s Torfaen and Monmouthshire Business Awards.

“I look forward to seeing them go from strength to strength.”’
