Zambia, located in southern Africa, is full of incredible wildlife, various open spaces, beautiful waterfalls, and so much more. Its stunning landscapes makes it known for some of the most legendary walking tours on the continent.
The country has 20 national parks, three of which – South Luangwa, Kafue and Lower Zambezi rank among the best national parks in the world.
South Luangwa is the origin of the famous “walking safari” With 60 different animal species and over 400 different bird species in the park alone, visitors can experience Africa’s unique wildlife first-hand.
Not only does the country offer walking safaris but visitors can also enjoy a “Waterfall Tour” which is becoming extremely popular. Zambia is home to 18 mesmerising waterfalls, including the most spectacular – Victoria Falls.
There are operators who offer tours around the area. Still, residents of the surrounding villages are also helpful and can talk about the traditional lore behind each waterfall, making the adventure more authentic.
Zambia prides itself on being a safe country to visit, with it being one of the top 10 safest countries in Africa, out of a total of 54.
Direct flights to Zambia are unavailable from the UK, with the average flight taking around 16 hours. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) also provides information about entry requirements for Brits who would like to travel there.
The FCDO states: “To enter Zambia, your passport must have an ‘expiry date’ at least 6 months after the date you arrive. It must have at least 2 blank pages for entry stamping.
“British passport holders do not need a visa to enter Zambia. You must be able to show valid return or onward tickets and that you have enough money for your stay.”
Official Foreign Office guidance also adds: “Tourists may remain in Zambia for a total of 90 days in any 12 month period. For business visitors the maximum stay in Zambia over a 12 month period is 30 days.”
The governmental body also provided information about the safety and security of the country, stating: “Terrorist attacks in Zambia cannot be ruled out. Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreigners.”
Also, sharing information regarding outdoor activities and adventure tourism it continued: “Wild animals in the bush, including venomous snakes, are unpredictable and do kill. Whether you are travelling on land or water, you are at risk of potentially fatal animal attacks.
“Adventure sports, including in the Victoria Falls area, carry risks. There have been serious accidents and deaths. The quality of medical care varies greatly. Follow safety instructions closely. Make sure you have appropriate travel insurance and accessible funds to cover the cost of any medical treatment or potential repatriation.”
