Pretty seaside town loved that is overlooked by Brits

Must read

Situated just 12 km east of Málaga, Rincón de la Victoria is a charming seaside in southern Spain.

Haven’t heard of it? We’re not surprised. The town is a less known part of Spain often bypassed by British tourists.

Mainly popular with Spaniards opting for a seaside escape from Malaga city, the town is the perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of busier resorts in the Costa del Sol

During the summer month, the town’s population of approximately 38,000 can double overnight as tourists flock to its alluring coasts and breath-taking beaches.

Among the favourites is Rincón de la Victoria Beach, an 8km stretch offering a beautiful promenade and crystal clear, shallow waters that are perfect for families with children. In addition, numerous small idyllic restaurants and bars line the beach, providing plenty of dining options for all taste buds.

Historically, Rincón de la Victoria’s main tourist attractions were its historical monuments, such as the Bezmiliana Fortress Castle, the El Cantal and Benagalbón watchtowers, and the churches of Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria and Nuestra Señora del Carmen.

While these sites remain appealing, most visitors now are drawn to the famous Treasure Cave, “la Cueva del Tesoro”, located just outside the town in the residential area of El Cantal.

This beloved Jurassic cave, one of three marine-formed caves discovered in the world, is believed to hold long lost treasure and is a popular attraction.

Originally just a fishing village, Rincón de la Victoria has undergone major developments in recent years, with new urbanisation and apartment blocks springing up.

Like other villages and towns in Andalucia, Rincón de la Victoria hosts numerous fiestas and festivals throughout the year.

One of the most notable is the Fiesta de la Virgen del Carmen, celebrated annually from the 12th to 16th July in Málaga. This festival honours the patron saint of mariners and fishermen with parades, copla competitions, live musical performances, and a traditional procession where a statue of the saint Virgen is carried through the streets.

For those keen to experience a traditional festival during their time in the Málaga province, then this festival is not to be missed.

And if you’re looking for one of the best beaches in southern Spain, or even just a place to relax, Rincón de la Victoria awaits — so start packing now.
