Rangers learn referee and VAR for Premier Sports Cup semi-final vs Motherwell

Must read

There’s no hiding for Philippe Clement and Rangers at the moment as yet another massive game is just around the corner.

The clash at Pittodrie against Aberdeen last night was hugely anticipated but the Light Blues were unable to put a marker down in the title race.

Rangers were awful bar a spell in the second-half against the high-flying Dons and serious pressure now weighs upon the shoulders of Clement, who has lost faith from the supporters.

He needs to win on Sunday against Motherwell to keep the club’s chances of lifting a trophy this season alive – otherwise, it’s hard to see him surviving for much longer as boss.

Rangers won the Premier Sports Cup last season and doing so again would appease the supporter base somewhat – whether Clement is still in a job by then is anyone’s guess though.

In the meantime, the officials have been confirmed for the Mount Florida showpiece at the weekend with the SPFL making an announcement on Thursday.

Referee & VAR for Motherwell vs Rangers

Nick Walsh has been confirmed as the referee for Motherwell vs Rangers in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final on Sunday.

The match officials have been announced for the game by the SPFL with Alan Muir on VAR for the crucial cup clash at Hampden Park.

Graeme Stewart and Ross Macleod will run the lines as the assistant referees while Ross Hardie has been appointed the fourth official.

Andrew McWilliam will be in the VAR booth to assist Muir on the day.

Nick Walsh’s record vs Rangers

According to data provided by Transfermarkt, Nick Walsh has refereed more Rangers games than any other club in Scotland.

He’s been the man in the middle for 47 Rangers encounters, with Gers winning 35 of those and losing just six.

Walsh has brandished 75 yellow cards to Rangers players, the second-highest of all clubs in Scotland behind Ross County.

Two red cards have been shown to Rangers players by Walsh with 10 penalty kicks awarded in favour of the Govan club – the same number handed to Celtic by the official.
