Reason why Milan vs Liverpool is not on TNT Sports as game available for FREE

Must read

Liverpool begin their Champions League campaign against AC Milan in a fixture steeped in history – with more eyes on it than ever before.

The Reds return to the top table of European football after a year-long absence to renew hostilities with their famous Italian rivals.

This fixture will undoubtedly evoke memories of the ‘Miracle of Istanbul’ in 2005 when the Merseysiders came from three goals down at half-time to ultimately beat Milan on penalties.

Two years, later the Serie A giants exacted their revenge at the same stage with a 2-1 triumph in Athens, but their fall from domestic dominance meant meetings between the two became few and far between.

The Rossoneri and the Reds are second and third behind Real Madrid for all-time Champions League winners with seven and six apiece.

However, their only meetings in the past 17 years came in the group stages of the 2021/22 season, with Liverpool winning home and away.

Now, the Anfield club travel to the San Siro in the pick of Tuesday’s Champions League offerings for UK fans – although fans looking to watch it will need to adjust their TV subscriptions.

Why is Milan vs Liverpool not on TNT Sports?

TNT Sports (formerly BT Sport) has been the exclusive rights holder for the Champions League for UK viewers since 2015.

However, UEFA‘s expanded competition has not only sparked alterations to the format but to the broadcast coverage as well.

TNT will still show 184 of the 204 matches live, but both Amazon Prime Video and the BBC also have select footage to air until 2027.

The Beeb’s coverage is restricted to highlights, but Amazon will be showing ‘every top Tuesday match’ for the next three seasons.

The American-based service’s deal runs until each year’s semi-final stage, and Liverpool have been selected as their first-round pick.
