The Brewery has proposed a series of changes to Arcade Place – which links the main car park side to Exchange Street – including a new canopy, new lighting and a railing replacement.
The planning application, submitted to Havering Council by Romford Property Unit Trust, details that the main aims of the refurbishment work are to improve lighting along the walkway and refresh the existing columns.

The Brewery’s current blue canopies above Boots and Gap are proposed to be removed due to their “ineffective weatherproofing and darkening, weathered, restrictive and dated nature”.
Planning documents reveal that they would be replaced by a new glazed canopy with a “modern” aesthetic, in keeping with the waved canopy already in place above other shops.
A “deteriorating” high-level rail above the walkway would also be replaced by aluminium railing, with a wood effect finish – the base for the several of the new signs also planned by The Brewery.
Upgrades to the Arcade Place stairwell, and new boxed seating and greenery planters are other elements of the plans.
On top of this, new paintwork, cleaned brickwork and maintenance of the columns will help to provide a “well-maintained” and “visually inviting appearance”.

Havering Council is set to make a decision on the refurbishment plans by January 23.
