Russia in flames as huge blaze rocks government building with dozens evacuated

Must read

A Russian government building has gone up in flames on July 10. Huge plumes of black thick smoke could be seen rising from the building, a district court located on Pobeda Street in the Russian resort city of Sochi.

Russian news outlets reported the fire spread through the building, engulfing an area as big as 6,458 square feet.

The fire started on the third floor of the building, news outlet SHOT wrote on Telegram.

Clips shared on the messaging platform by independent Russian publication Astra showed firefighters trying to quash the blaze, and raging flames emerging from a window of what appeared to be an attic.

The cause of the fire has not been reported and it isn’t clear whether it is linked to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

In light of the horrific attack on the children’s hospital in Kyiv earlier this week, Ukraine retaliated by pummelling Russia with drones.

Russia has denied targeting the hospital, claiming it had been hit by fragments of a Ukrainian air defence missile, while Ukraine said it had found remnants of a Russian cruise missile.
