Luke Evans has angered Saturday Kitchen viewers by *checks notes* wearing a hat.

The Welsh actor and singer appeared on the show to chat about his new book, Boy From the Valleys: My unexpected journey. Luke, 45, has had a very interesting career. He played Gaston in Disney’s live-action and wowed in major franchises including Fast and Furious and The Hobbit, and was once favourite to take over the James Bond role but recently ruled himself out, and therefore has plenty to talk about.

Unfortunately, the hat stole some focus from his conversation with host chef Matt Tebbutt on the BBC show.

His choice to place a flat cap atop his head was met with criticism. ‘Take your blooming 🧢 off!!’ wrote Kevinmharris58 on Instagram. We’re guessing he’s not a fan of Tom Jones’ song You Can Leave Your Hat On.

‘How rude to sit eating with your bloody hat on 😬,’ added AvtechnikTi. ‘Cant see Luke’s face – bizarre 😮,’ typed Newent66.

‘Men wearing caps indoors is one of my pet hates,’ fumed JustMe on X.

Mr Chambers warned: ‘Take your cap off or you won’t feel the benefit when you go outside…’

Great Uncle Bryan asked: ‘Who wears a hat indoors?’ Chefs, cowboys, builders, and Luke Evans.*

*This list is not exhaustive.

However others were more positive. Magstarparker said: ‘Love Luke’s baker boy hat! Where is it from?’ MrsMo2021 also wanted the details for her ‘obsessed’ husband.

Luke’s anecdotes included revealing Boy George stayed at his apartment after he locked himself out of his own home and how he thought Joan Rivers was crying when they first met. ‘George said “That’s just the surgery”.’

Last month, another Saturday Kitchen guest felt compelled to defend their own outfit.

Chef Kate Carter-Larg hit back at accusations that her outfit on the show was ‘inappropriate’ after several viewers made judgemental remarks about the sleeveless top that she was wearing for her live TV appearance.

‘If you know me in real life or look at our social media page, I literally wear a strapless top all the time as I live by the beach,’ she wrote.

‘It’s not like I wore a thong and nipple tassels – but that’s how everyone is reacting. I thought I was going on TV to show off our toasties – I didn’t even think about my arms being on show!’

Saturday Kitchen returns on Saturday at 10am on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
