Tucked away in Cornwall is one of the UK’s most beautiful seaside towns that has stayed charming despite teeming with tourists in the summer months – and it even has one of the UK’s best high streets.
The Telegraph recently listed St Ives’ high street as one of the best in the UK, featuring cobbled lanes, whitewashed buildings and indepedent shops.
“Fore Street in St Ives, with its slate-hung shops and independent galleries, has changed little over the last century, offering a perfect mix of local and artistic charm,” the publication wrote.
This gorgeous street is perfect for a winter wander without the crowds. While in summer St Ives is often crowded and hectic it won’t disappont in the cooler months.
The beautiful town of St Ives offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean from its purple heather-covered coastline and is surrounded by golden beaches with blue clear waters.
The town is equally as breathtaking and was recently voted one of the UK’s best seaside towns. With winding cobbled streets and pastel coloured boats bobbing in the azure harbour St Ives offers views straight from a picture-perfect postcard.
While its beaches are often crowded with holidaymakers in the summer months, anyone taking a winter trip to this paradise will find their beach walks serene and peaceful – albeit a little cold, so make sure you rug up warm.
If the weather is truly dreadful you could try a spot of storm watching – a popular pastime in St Ives.
From the safety of one of the town’s many seaside pubs and cafes you can stay warm and cosy inside while watching the waves lash at the coastline.
If you fancy a winter visit to this seaside town and the weather isn’t playing ball, there’s plenty of inside activities at the town too.
You could pop to the St Ives branch of the Tate Gallery which has been a staple in the town since 1993. The imposing building overlooks Porthmeor beach and houses contemporary art across its three stories.
For even more art you could explore Barbara Hepworth’s Studio, who was a famous local artist whose work has been housed in a beautiful sculpture garden.
If you fancy a pint after all that culture you can head along to The Sloop Inn on the harbourside for a drink with a gorgeous view of the stunning St Ives coastline.
