Shoppers were placed in a virtual queue due to a ‘high volume of traffic’ on the Lush website during today’s Boxing Day sales. People trying to access the cosmetic store’s online sales were greeted with a message stating their estimated wait time.

The message went on to say: “We are experiencing a high volume of traffic and using a virtual queue to limit the amount of users on the website at the same time. This will ensure you have the best possible online experience.”

Once shoppers were redirected on to the sale section of the site, only a small number of items were available to purchase, with many sold out earlier in the day. The store’s cream candy shower gel, axolotl egg bath bomb and Valkyrie conditioner were all showing as ‘unavailable’ on the site, after being heavily reduced by up to 50% off.

At the time of writing, only five products were available to purchase at the discounted rate, including a body lotion, a face scrub and a conditioner. Many shoppers opted to wait in a physical queue rather than a virtual queue this morning, with Liverpool’s flagship store seeing customers waiting outside for hours before the shop opened its doors.

Bargain hunters bundled up in their coats on a chilly Boxing Day morning in hopes of bagging a bargain at the city store. Signs in the window of the shop advertised a ‘freshness sale’ with 50% off some products as stores across Liverpool prepare to greet a steady stream of shoppers throughout the course of the day.

While the Boxing Day sales used to be one of the busiest days for Liverpool’s high streets, the scene in the city today was distinctly quieter, with many shoppers opting to browse discounts online. The LUSH Boxing Day sale has been known to attract queues in recent years with some shoppers telling our reporter they had been stood outside since 6am.

The Lush sale went live on its website in the early hours of the morning with many people waking up to grab the biggest discounts. You can currently shop the sale here.

One shopper, Sian, said: “I’ve been here since 6am. I drove down just to go to LUSH to get my supplies, I got a bit of everything to last me the year, I stock up. I’ve been doing this for seven years and I’m not always the first, sometimes people get here before me. The last five years I have been the first person here. “There were quite a few people walking about when I got here this morning, but not many.”
