Shops closed on New Year’s Day including B&M and Home Bargains

A range of high street stores have shortened their opening hours for the New Year celebrations. Supermarket giants Aldi and Lidl will also be closed on New Year’s Day to give staff a well-deserved break.

If you’ve still got a few last-minute things to buy, whether it’s a bottle of fizz or snacks to keep the company happy, now is your last chance to do so. You’ve made it through the Christmas void period so don’t be left red-faced without a tipple during the New Year’s Eve countdown.

Most stores have shortened their shopping hours on New Year’s Eve. Below are the opening and closing times for B&M, Home Bargains, Aldi, Asda, Lidl, Sainsbury’s and Tesco.

B&M

  • New Year’s Eve: 8am – 6pm
  • New Year’s Day: 8am – 6pm

Home Bargains

  • New Year’s Eve: 9am – 6pm
  • New Year’s Day: CLOSED

Aldi

  • New Year’s Eve: Open until 6pm
  • New Year’s Day: CLOSED

Asda

  • New Year’s Eve: 7am-7pm
  • New Year’s Day: 9am-6pm

Lidl

  • New Year’s Eve: 8am – 6pm
  • New Year’s Day: CLOSED

Sainsbury’s

  • New Year’s Eve: Supermarkets open 10am-7pm. Convenience stores 6am-9pm.
  • New Year’s Day: Supermarkets open 8am-8pm. Convenience stores 8am-9pm.

Tesco

  • New Year’s Eve: Extras and Superstores close at 7pm. Most Express stores close by 10pm, with larger ones closing at 7pm.
  • New Year’s Day: 8am-6pm.
