Simple airport mistake that could cost passengers over £2,500

With the summer season around the corner, many Brits are gearing up for their much-awaited holiday plans.

But travel experts have shared one simple mistake that people can make which could end up costing you £2,500.

DIY and Tools Experts Saxton Blades has warned homeowners and tradespeople their airport selfies, and any other holiday snaps could end up costing them thousands.

Leading insurers report that a tool theft is reported every 12 minutes in the UK.

Therefore, advertising that your home, shed, or van is unwatched for an extended period of time while you’re away on holiday significantly increases your risk of becoming one of the over 40,000 predicted tool theft victims this summer.

According to your insurance terms and conditions, failing to take “reasonable” measures – such as showing off your tan to your social media followers – could render your insurance completely invalid.

Considering the average shed is worth over £2,500, this could be a costly mistake.

DIY and Tools Expert, Glen Allsopp of Saxton Blades of Saxton Blades, advised: “Everyone deserves a stress-free holiday after working hard to save up the cash to book the trip.

“We know people love to share their snaps straight away – especially if your co-workers are still working hard – but this simple act increases the risk of robbery and could invalidate your insurance with some providers.

“But our advice is to just wait until you get home to make your mates jealous – those Facebook likes aren’t worth risking thousands for.”

The expert has also shared some extra top tips for keeping your tools safe while you are away.

He said: “Enlist your neighbours, ask them to repay the favour for any odd jobs you have helped them with by asking them to bring the bins in or just keep an eye on the property.

“You can also transfer your expensive items from your van or shed indoors. Thirdly, install timers and give the illusion your trip is much shorter.

“At the end, you can set up a WhatsApp group to share that selfie with your nearest and dearest.”
