Woakes had to deviate from his traditional style to spin due to the bad light during the Sri Lanka innings.

The reactions on the ground showed just how bizarre the switch was with Joe Root finding his team-mate’s efforts hilarious.

Injured captain Ben Stokes was shocked in the stands as he walked off in disbelief after watching.

Sky Sports pundit Hussain, however, appeared to fall off his chair in a moment caught on camera.

Michael Atherton could be heard on commentary, he said: “In the commentary box, Nassar almost fell off his chair.

“The effect of Chris Woakes’ off-spin.”

However, all was not as it seemed as Hussain’s fall was actually from Friday’s action and Atherton had held the footage.

England finished their first innings on day two, having put on 325 runs.

Despite Stokes’ injury, the team won the first two Tests of the series.
