During the World Grand Prix on Thursday night, Sky Sports had to step in as crowd chants targeted Gerwyn Price with the term ‘sheep s******’. The 39-year-old Welsh darts player was competing against James Wade in Leicester, with hopes of securing a quarter-final position.

Unfortunately for ‘The Iceman’, he was knocked out after a 3-0 defeat by Wade. The atmosphere grew heated early in the game.

Both players responding to their successful throws—Price with loud cheers and Wade with a fist pump directed at the spectators during the pivotal fifth game of the set. However, it wasn’t long before derogatory chants aimed at Price could be heard, with the offensive “sheep s****** b*****” being chanted, prompting intervention from Sky to mask the noise from the coverage.

Fans watching from home expressed their disapproval of the disrespectful behaviour on social media. One viewer posted on X, stating: “Not a massive fan of Gerwyn Price but this crowd shouting sheep s******* b****** is just grim.”

Meanwhile, another sympathised, commenting: “In defence of Gerwyn Price, I wouldn’t play well if I was being called a sheep s******* b***** either,” reports Wales Online.

Post-match, though celebrating his win, Wade shared his sentiments on playing against Price: “I don’t enjoy playing against Gezzy. It’s tough playing against such a good friend. He’s one of the nicest people in darts, alongside Jonny Clayton.

“I was good enough [to get the win] tonight. There were enough opportunities given to me and I took them, so I’m really happy to be back in the quarter-finals.”
