Sky Sports reveal Cyriel Dessers transfer latest after £4.6m MLS claim

Must read

Rangers transfer business appears to be ramping up as the clock ticks towards the deadline.

Philippe Clement knows that there are gaps in his squad, however, without players leaving, it will be difficult see new signings presented at Ibrox with the scarf above their head.

One player who seemed certain to leave who is now starting to change the opinions of a few of the doubters is Cyriel Dessers after a £4.6m move to Atlanta United was close to completion.

Cyriel Dessers settled at Rangers amid exit speculation

The Nigeria international couldn’t agree personal terms but it is a decision that the manager is benefiting from with three goals and an assist in his four and a half appearances this season.

Now, according to Sky Sports, Dessers is settled in Glasgow and keen on staying at Rangers.

Speaking earlier in the summer after playing Ajax, it was a sentiment that the striker was keen to get across when asked about recent speculation:

“I am very happy here, so I would like to stay. There is some interest, but my intention is to stay and then we will see what happens.”

After netting the opener against St Johnstone in the Premier Sports cup, Dessers was happy with his contribution and how his campaign is going:

“I am pleased with my start to the season. I work hard for the team, I do the things the manager asks of me and then I know the goals will follow.

“That’s the case right now, I am happy for a goal and an assist for Ross as well.

“We work a lot on finishing and Ross has the right mentality and I am glad he got rewarded.”

Dessers has one job to do to win Rangers fans over

Cyriel Dessers can frustrate, but he made another valid point after the St Johnstone game.

It took him until October to get to three goals last season.

He arrived half-fit as Michael Beale tried to play him into sharpness but things never truly picked up until Philippe Clement took charge.

With a full pre-season, Dessers does look sharper, his link up play has improved too.

The 29-year old can score goals but his key target for this season shouldn’t be quantity, it should be quality.

Not in terms of how the goals are scored but who they are against.

This is the mark of a Rangers number nine and why players with poorer numbers are remembered more fondly.

A Daniel Cousin type performance at Parkhead would go a long way to rebuilding fans’ trust in a player who could score 30 goals and still not be favoured.
