A tech business has raised more than £280,000 for the Princess of Wales Hospital’s Children’s Ward in Bridgend.

Sony UK Technology Centre (UK TEC) in Pencoed has raised thousands of pounds for the ward since it nominated the cause in 2013.

Most recently, 60 members of its team took part in a 30-mile charity walk from Llangennith to Mumbles raising more than £7,500 thanks to the generosity of supporters and event sponsors Advanced Manufacturing Services Limited, Rebound Electronics, Merlin PCB Group, Fineline Var Ltd, Zenith Print & Packaging Ltd and Future Electronics.

The global manufacturer also raised £4,000 at its annual Charity Football Day, which took place on 3rd May. Partnering with Cardiff City Stadium, employees formed Swansea and Cardiff teams to compete in the match, with the event’s proceeds going towards supporting the cause. The football match concluded with a 2-2 draw at the final whistle.

Since partnering with the charity in 2013, Sony UK TEC has raised more than £280,000 for the Children’s Ward, actively participating in refurbishments and donating essential medical equipment. UK TEC remains committed to orchestrating diverse fundraising initiatives internally and within the local community.

Looking forward, Sony UK TEC’s CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) team is excited to coordinate its upcoming annual Charity Golf Day in September at the Celtic Manor Resort from which the hospital will receive further donations.

Senior Manager of People at Sony UK TEC, Cecilia Fritz said: “As a socially aware business we are committed to working with, and for, the people of South Wales by continuing to support local hospitals, charities, and communities. Since 2013, Sony UK TEC has been supporting the Children’s Ward at The Princess of Wales Hospital to create a long-lasting impact. Our corporate social responsibility policy emphasises supporting organisations that contribute to the well-being of young people, and the Children’s Ward aligns perfectly with this commitment.

“Many of our staff hold The Princess of Wales Hospital close to their hearts, having had family members who have spent time in its care. This partnership provides an opportunity to express our gratitude to the hospital for their incredible work.

“We are so proud of our team players’ dedication to supporting such a worthy cause.”

Beyond assisting the Children’s Ward at the Princess of Wales Hospital, UK TEC supports more than 30 local organisations, ranging from sporting and social clubs to schools, and more specialised caring centres.
