Here’s the essential information UK travelers must submit to the Spanish government

Planning a trip to Spain in the near future? Be ready to disclose additional personal information to Spanish authorities.

Starting December 2, UK travelers visiting Spain will be legally obligated to provide 31 new details to their hotels and accommodations. This requirement is part of the Spanish government’s initiative to combat organized crime.

These new regulations are part of a series of increased requirements for UK visitors to Spain in recent years. Among them is the 2022 rule requiring travelers to demonstrate they have sufficient funds for the duration of their stay.

Spanish border authorities may ask tourists to provide evidence that they have access to €100 (£83) per day for their stay, with a minimum total of €900 (£766.94). UK travelers are also required to show proof of a return or onward travel ticket.

What personal information must you share?

From December 2, anyone aged 14 or older will be required to submit the following personal details:

  • Full name
  • Nationality
  • Gender
  • Passport number
  • Date of birth
  • Residential address
  • Landline number (if applicable)
  • Mobile phone number
  • Email address

Is there a penalty for failing to provide this information?

At the moment, no. Penalties do not apply to individual travelers. However, hotels that fail to collect the required information may face fines of up to £25,000.

What amount do you need to show as available for daily expenses?

As per the 2022 regulations, you may be required to demonstrate that you have adequate funds for your stay. So, what qualifies as “proof of sufficient funds”?

  • Certified checks (personal checks verified by the bank)
  • Traveler’s checks (paper checks often used by travelers)
  • Payment letters
  • Credit cards (with supporting bank statements or an updated bank book)
