Spain holiday horror as British tourists stabbed by masked muggers

Two British tourists have been caught up in a horror Spain mugging which ended with the victim being rushed to hospital with stab wounds.

The couple were among four holidaymakers targeted in the famous Costa Brava resort of Lloret de Mar.

A masked mugger ambushed them before demanding their cash and other valuables.

One of the tourists, described as a woman, was left bleeding heavily after being stabbed during a struggle with the aggressor after they reportedly refused to comply with his demand.

Local news website Lloret Gaceta said the victim had been “bleeding heavily” when police arrived to take her to a nearby hospital in the town of Blanes.

The robbery suspect was arrested close to the scene on suspicion of robbery and wounding. A mobile phone belonging to the visitors was recovered during the detention.

The drama occurred in the early hours of Monday morning.

It was not immediately clear this morning whether the detainee has already appeared in court for a remand hearing and whether the stab victim remains in hospital.

The latest violent incident involving foreign tourists being targeted in Spain occurred 24 hours after a man was filmed slapping a one-year-old baby in a Barcelona park.

Her French tourist dad was pictured swooping the crying youngster up in his arms before he and the baby’s mum quickly walked away from the attacker following the incident in the Catalan capital’s Montjuic Park.

The suspect was initially described as a Moroccan migrant before police confirmed he was from Ecuador.

He was due to appear in court yesterday but ended up being admitted to a hospital psychiatric unit.

In June a 31-year-old British tourist was knifed to death outside a nightclub in Calella a half-hour drive south of Lloret.

Police confirmed soon after the fatal stabbing they had arrested a man thought to be from the Dominican Republic.

Several anti-mass tourist protests have taken place around Spain this year, with locals complaining the sheer number of holidaymakers is making their lives a misery.

They cite the lack of affordable housing because of the excess number of Airbnb-style rentals and noise pollution as some of the problems.

There is no evidence to suggest the incident involving the baby in Barcelona or Monday’s stabbing in Lloret are linked to the mass tourism unrest.
