A number of weather warnings have been issued for the Spanish region of Catalonia after the arrival of the downgraded Hurricane Kirk.
Rather than heading towards the Caribbean or US, Kirk has steered into western Europe in the last 24 hours.
Remnants tore up trees in Spain and Portugal before dumping persistent rainfall on France.
At least one person was killed in southern France and more than 67,000 people were left without electricity, local authorities said.
Gusts off the port city of Sete, in southern France, overturned three boats, killing one person and leaving another in critical condition, the Herault prefecture said in a statement.
Hurricane Kirk continues to affect the weather conditions in the western part of the continent, particularly in Spain.
After amber alerts for ‘violent north-west wind’ were issued along the Cantabrian and Biscay coasts, several yellow warnings are also in place for today.
Spain’s national weather agency, Aemet, warned of strong winds and two-metre waves across Tarragona’s southern coast.
Meanwhile, waves of three to four metres are expected in Catalonia’s region of Empordà .
Gusts of wind are set to reach a maximum of 50mph along the Catalonian coast until about 11am local time today.
Aemet’s map shows that the weather conditions in Spain will worsen tomorrow, with areas in Cordoba, Seville, Cádiz, Huelva and Andévalo being hit by storms.
Rainfall is expectd to reach almost one metre in 12 hours in Sierra and Pedroches, Seville, Aracena, Andévalo and Huelva.
Gusts of wind up to 50mph will also hit the northern region of Navarre.
Moving into Saturday, two amber warnings for rain have been put in place for the regions of Cordoba and Seville.
