Spain’s ‘prettiest’ village just 15 minutes from busy seaside resort

Must read

Offering panoramic views of the Mediterranean coast and surrounding mountain region, the maze-like village of Frigiliana offers a tranquil retreat in the heart of the Costa del Sol.

Nestled in a more rural area of Malaga, Frigiliana has been described as one of the most beautiful towns in Spain.

Often called the ‘white village’ thanks to its strikingly bright white buildings reminiscent of a Greek island, Frigiliana offers a serene retreat nestled in the countryside.

Despite the peace of this seemingly remote destination, the village is just a 15 minute drive from the bustling seaside resort of Nerja, and less than an hour from Malaga.

Along the winding cobbled streets of Frigiliana, it’s easy to see why the small village is steadily becoming a more popular holiday destination for tourists.

The white houses are covered in vibrant pink and red flowers and surrounded by greenery in terracotta pots, providing a beautiful backdrop for holiday photos.

With the Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama Mountains National Park right on your doorstep, there are endless possibilities for scenic walks along hiking trails.

In August, the town hosts the festival of three cultures with four days of food, music and performances to celebrate the cultural history of Spain.

The hidden village is less than an hour drive from Malaga Airport, with flights available over the summer months for less than £100.

The region sees the warmest temperatures between May and September, with highs over 30C.

With the sandy Burriana Beach just down the road, or the more hidden Carabeo Beach, it’s only a short journey to cool off in the waves.

If you’re considering a trip to Frigiliana, be sure to consider some of the beautiful apartments and villas on offer, many offering private pools and sun terraces to truly make the most of this stunning mountain town.
