Sporting director in UK amid reports his club want to complete Man United deal – Sky Sports

Napoli retain an interest in Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay and their sporting director Giovanni Manna is in England trying to close some deals, according to Sky Sports.

The Red Devils want to sell the Scotland international but have rejected bids from Fulham, who have since moved on and signed Sander Berge, while the Serie A club have also tabled offers.

Napoli manager Antonio Conte admires McTominay, and while Manna is in town, it remains to be seen if he plans to hold talks with Man United concerning a deal for the 27-year-old.

The Old Trafford club are already preparing for the potential departure of their academy graduate despite his appearance off the bench against Fulham, with Paris Saint-Germain star Manuel Ugarte on their radar and talks ongoing.

Atalanta midfielder Ederson has also been linked with Man United and selling McTominay will not hurt the squad depth available to manager Erik ten Hag as long as a quality replacement is brought in.

Cashing in on the academy graduate represents pure profit in terms of Financial Fair Play as the Red Devils look to balance the books and comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

They have spent around £155 million so far this summer on the acquisitions of Leny Yoro, Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, and they could do with more sales despite making £49m from the sales of Alvaro Fernandez, Mason Greenwood, Willy Kambwala and Donny van de Beek.

They could be left with no choice but to agree a loan deal with an option to buy for their Scottish star if current bids do not satisfy them.

Man United could also wait until the final few days of the transfer window before lowering their demands for McTominay, and more clubs could join Napoli in the race for the midfielder.
