A gymnastics finalist, a passionate disabled footballer and a rehabilitation centre that helps cancer survivors were all celebrated at North West Leicestershire’s Let’s Get Moving Awards on Thursday 28 November.
Celebrating the district’s community champions of physical activity and sport, the awards paid tribute to spirit, dedication and resilience through fantastic achievements in sports and activity.
The awards are organised by North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) in partnership with Everyone Active and School Sports Partnership.
Amongst those who won was a remarkable disabled footballer whose tenacity and skill earned him a place among the very best in the game, as well as a gymnast finalist whose spectacular journey to the top has shown grace, strength, and perseverance.
As well as individuals, teams were also celebrated, such as Sands United and Cancer Active Recovery Support who provide transformative support through movement.
The winners of the adult awards are:
- Group or Club of the Year – Sands United
- Team of the Year – New Lount Bowls Club
- Sportsperson of the Year – Isabella Clarke
- Let’s Get Moving Hero – Johnny Buckley
- Disabled Person of the Year – Archie Newbold
- Let’s Get Moving for Health – Joan Kidley
- Active Mums Award – Nesting Lotus
- Outstanding Contribution – Michelle Scott Worthington
The winners of the school awards are:
- School of the Year – Woodcote Primary School
- Primary School Team – Broom Leys Gymnastics Squad
- Secondary School Team – Ibstock School Y8/9 Girls Futsal Team
- Let’s Get Moving Young Hero – Esmee Harris
- Let’s Get Moving Activator – Nikki Mcmahon
The event has been kindly sponsored by IM Properties, who were the headline sponsor of the event.
