Stay in the ‘Last Christmas’ ski village and same chalet George Michael

Must read

It’s Christmas which means anywhere you go will have carols blasting, from supermarkets to shops to pubs.

One classic that is so famed it’s even inspired a game is Wham!’s ‘Last Christmas’ – a whimsical tune about love, festivities and heartbreak.

The song is so massive that scores of people every December play what’s known as ‘Whamageddon’ – where you try and go for as long as possible without hearing the song playing in public.

But in addition to its enduring popularity and catchy melody, ‘Last Christmas’ was also famed for its music video, which perfectly encapsulates the wintery season.

Thanks to the luxury hotel The Capra, you can now travel to where the video was shot and visit the same chalet that welcomed George 40 years ago.

Set against the snowy peaks of Switzerland’s Valais region, the village of Saas-Fee, where ‘Last Christmas’ was shot, remains largely unchanged.

So guests visiting this year can expect a huge dose of 80s nostalgia as well as lots of fun pop-ups and events – as all local businesses are getting involved to celebrate the anniversary.

As part of a three-night package introduced for the song’s 40th anniversary, two guests can enjoy a Wham! Cocktail during their stay, daily breakfast, and a Wham!Walk.

After a long day of soaking up the snowy surroundings, you can head down to the hotel’s wine cellar, where they will be hosting nostalgia nights and serving up 80s-inspired culinary classics such as prawn cocktails and, of course, trifle.

If you’re visiting over December 21 you’re in for a special treat with a colourful ‘80s Wham! party held within the village so you can dance the night away.

There’s even a Wham! Museum at the Saas Museum for superfans to check out.

The Capra’s Last Christmas package is available from December 1 to January 31, with prices starting at 1,170 CHF (£1,043) for a three-night stay based on double occupancy.
