Surprising Spanish hotspot is ‘becoming a luxury destination’

Must read

When you think of Benidorm, booze, fry-up breakfasts and a bustling nightlife scene might spring to mind. The beachfront destination is a popular hotspot for British tourists, with a 5.2 percent rise in tourists from the UK in 2023 compared with 2019, according to Benidorm.org. In 2023, 832,115 British tourists visited Benidorm.

Along with its seafront location, the city’s popularity is due to its nightlife, which is centred around a concentration of bars and clubs. Benidorm also has a large expat community.

However, according to experts from online travel booking platform Omio, a new type of holiday is emerging in the region. According to Omio: “Benidorm is becoming a luxury destination.”

They added: “With over 101.4 million posts on TikTok, Benidorm is a popular destination for many Brits to fly away to.

“However, over the years, the Spanish resort has been renowned for its party antics, with many Stag dos and Hens dos jetting off for a weekend of boozy fun.

“But, there appears to be a rise in Brits heading to Benidorm to enjoy a more luxurious holiday.”

While the main hubbub of Benidorm still holds onto its classic bars, pubs, entertainment and amenities, Omio has revealed some alternative destinations just a short journey from the epicentre of the city where you can enjoy a luxurious break.

Calpe

“Only 20 minutes away from the centre of Benidorm, Calpe is fast becoming a popular destination for Brits to enjoy a luxury holiday,” said Omio.

“The small town boasts good food and beautiful scenery and Brits can enjoy a relaxing stroll down the promenade to witness the beauty of the Calpe Rock.

“Whether you want to spend your whole holiday here, or escape the tourist-packed seafront of Benidorm for the day, Calpe is the perfect place to add a luxury touch to your travels.”

Old Town Benidorm

“Old Town Benidorm is the place to visit to soak in the traditions of Spanish culture,” said Omio.

“Situated around 10 minutes away from the centre of Benidorm, the Old Town adds a touch of class to your Benidorm holiday. It is full of history and culture and is set on a backdrop of traditional architecture and beautiful sea views, offering a stark contrast from the pub-filled streets of Benidorm.”

The Level at Meliá Villaitana

With 15.8K posts on TikTok, this five-star resort in Benidorm is becoming a hot spot for tourists who want to experience the luxury side of Benidorm.

“Situated 1.8 miles from the centre of Benidorm, the resort is the epitome of luxury style, featuring a VIP lounge, golf course and a kids club, making it the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing Benidorm holiday,” added Omio.
