The beautiful Greek island that isn’t one of Europe’s ‘usual suspects’

Must read

The Greek island of Naxos has been branded as a quiet paradise compared to its busy neighbours by a travel expert.

Speaking exclusively to the Express, the founder of Always On The Shore, Wayne Kask, claimed that the island is much better than its busy neighbours, Santorini and Mykonos.

Kask said: “Over in Greece, while Santorini and Mykonos are bursting at the seams, other islands still offer that quintessential Greek experience – without the crush of tourists.”

He added: “Naxos is a great option. It’s got beautiful beaches, historic ruins, and enough space for everyone to spread out.”

The main town on the island is Chora, and it has historical sites like the Temple of Apollo and the Venetian Castle.

On top of that, beaches like Agios Prokopios give tourists clear waters for swimming and relaxing.

And for those looking to explore more than just the main attractions, smaller villages like Agia Anna offer a more traditional Greek experience, with local shops, cafes, and tavernas lining the streets.

These areas have a much quieter atmosphere than what’s typically found in the more crowded Cyclades islands.

“Next time you plan a trip, consider those lesser-known spots. You’ll avoid the chaos and maybe even find a new favourite place along the way,” Kask said.

Kask recommends staying for at least a few days in Naxos to experience the island fully.

As far as getting there goes, ferries regularly go between Naxos and Athens and other nearby islands.

Kask said: “I’ve always believed that travel should be enjoyable for both tourists and locals.”

More importantly, he added that Naxos offers that balance with its mix of attractions and less crowds.
