The only Northern seaside village named among the ‘poshest’ in the UK

A charming Northumberland coastal village has been named among the ten poshest seaside towns in Britain.

Alnmouth’s rich history as well as the stunning coastal views have seen it emerge as a top destination for city dwellers looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the metropolis.

Estate agent Cherylle Millard-Dawe, who runs eco-homes specialist Propology, said the small seaside town is slowly becoming a bit like Cornwall.

She noted the “breathtaking” location has some of the oldest properties in the area, with homes coming with an average price tag of £495,931.

Ms Millard-Dawe told The Telegraph: “The market has calmed a bit now, prices have fallen and properties are sticking around longer.”

The lovely Northumberland seaside town boasts pastel-coloured houses that line the River Aln and monochrome timber-framed buildings that intertwine with the stone ones.

The prosperous port of Alnmouth underwent a sudden transformation in 1806 when a severe storm altered the course of the estuary it was situated.

Consequently, the villagers transitioned from exporting grain to operating one of the first seaside resorts, which saw a significant increase in popularity following the arrival of the railways.

Once home to one of the earliest English golf courses, a holiday camp, bathing houses, beach huts and spacious sea-view villas, this village now has a population of just 500.

Despite its small size, it boasts four pubs, several cafes and a few restaurants. The highlight of the village is undoubtedly its two-mile sandy beach.

Alnmouth Beach is known for its beautiful sands and sea views and is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

The beach is spacious and wide, offering a feeling of openness and tranquility, regardless of the season.

The beach features a small harbour, located just inside the mouth of the River Aln.

The village is situated within one of Northumberland’s Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offering visitors a chance to spot diverse birds and wildlife amidst the sand dunes.

Alnmouth is easily accessible by car via the B1338 and the A1068 or by train from Bristol, Glasgow, Plymouth, and Dundee.
