The pretty little town in Spain that’s 26C in October and has beautiful beaches

The Canary Islands are among the most sought-after holiday destinations for Brits heading abroad.

In 2023, the Canary Islands welcomed a record 16 million visitors – including 14.1 million foreign visitors, of which 5.7 million British holidaymakers, marking a 13 percent increase from the previous year.

Most head to islands like Tenerife and Lanzarote, but one island has been hailed as another great option.

La Gomera is the third smallest island in the Canaries and offers a cheaper and more relaxing option.

The weather there is great too, reaching 26C in October.

La Gomera is known for its black sandy beaches, beautiful beaches and warm weather.

It is also home to San Sebastian, hailed as one of Spain’s most underrated towns.

Travel website Cosa Crusies says San Sebastian de la Gomera is a place where “time seems to have stopped a hundred years ago”.

Built on a volcanic rock, the town has a connection to the famous explorer Christopher Columbus, and therefore has a number of monuments in tribute to him.

One of them is Columbus’ House, where the explorer had “amorous” meetings.

A small stone watchtower – named Torre del Conde – adds to the town’s charm.

Meanwhile, the Church of the Assumption is another must-see site with its stone archways, a bell tower and artwork.

In a blog entitled “Go here, not there”, traveller Loria Zaino claimed the island is better than Tenerife.

Loria said: “Paradise offering incredible hikes and gorgeous scenery. The island is ideal for anyone looking to trade the busy city for lush greenery.”
