This campsite in North Wales is surrounded by beautiful forests and unspoiled beaches.
Boasting a whopping 300 acres of camping space, Shell Island is not only the UK’s largest campsite but also one of the biggest in Europe.
It is a good place to consider for those seeking a peaceful retreat or a more sociable camping experience, according to its website.
Based in North Wales, the site boasts stunning views of the unspoilt Welsh countryside including Cardigan Bay and the Snowdonia National Park.
It is also possible to set up camp by the beach and fall asleep to the sound of the waves. Or, instead, there are camping spots hiding away amongst the trees.
Campers are not assigned pitches, as is usual at campsites, but are instead encouraged to explore the vast land and choose a spot that suits their fancy.
If you’re planning to visit during the school holidays, however, it’s recommended to book online in advance, especially if you’re arriving at the weekend, to secure your pitch.
The campsite was also awarded Tripadvisor’s Traveller Choice Awards this year.
Many guests have left glowing reviews of the site, with one writing: “We honestly really enjoyed our time at Shell Island. We arrived on a Sunday and stayed for two nights. Toilets and showers were always clean. The shops are reasonably priced and the cafe/restaurant served lovely food.
“Gorgeous, clean beach where the sunset was beautiful in the evenings. We took a walk down to the little pier/boat area and actually saw some fishermen bring in lots of lobster which was cool to see.
“All around great experience. Plenty to do for families.”
Another wrote: “We love shell island very much, we have been going for over 10 years. Myself and my son adore it here, he has been going since he was five months old (he’s now seven). I would definitely recommend for families with young or old children, couples, dogs, people on their own, basically everyone.
“Everytime I go I have a different experience. It’s good for the soul.”
