This Spanish city is an underrated spot for tourists to visit yet it’s one of Spain’s most fascinating destinations.
Cadiz is one of Europe’s oldest cities meaning visitors will have the chance to admire the history while exploring.
The city originated from around 1100 and was founded by the Phoenicians, although legend has it that Hercules himself founded Cadiz.
It is located in the Andalusia region of Spain and is 126km from Seville.
Cadiz is known for its beautiful seafront, stunning gardens and open squares which feature historic architecture.
While you’re in the city, you can wander through the streets, eat al fresco in the squares and soak up the sun on Cadiz’s beaches.
You can visit the Torre Tavira, a watch tower from the eighteenth century which situated at the highest point of the city.
One visitor on Tripadvisor said: “Views were great. When you get to Cadiz go to Torre Tavira first, the staff is very helpful and will explain viewing options.
“Pay to hike to the terrace on top for 360 degree views. From there plan your route for what you will visit the next day or two.
“As a bonus the history of city lookout towers is interesting and there was some fun art to look at on the way up. If you are in Cadiz this is worth doing.”
One of the best beaches in the area is Playa La Caleta which is best reached by foot from Cadiz Old Town.
The beach is loved by locals and features beautiful golden sand.
A visitor on Tripadvisor said: “We had an amazing time on this beach, I loved my swim out in the sea. It was calm, beautiful sand, we’ll be back if we find ourselves back in Cadiz.”
To get to Cadiz, you’ll have to fly to Jerez De La Frontera Airport which is 30 miles away as there is no airport in the city itself.
It will take you just over half an hour to get from the airport into the city.
