Worthing is a British seaside town that sits on the West Sussex coast just along from the city of Brighton.
Although its famous neighbour draws in millions of tourists every year for its lanes, festivals, and fish and chip shops, Worthing is also worth a visit.
Furthermore, just like Brighton, it can easily be accessed by train, car and bus from London either by travelling from Victoria or by driving along the M23 and A23.
What’s more, its vicinity to Brighton means that those looking to base themselves on the south coast are within walking and cycling distance of the cultural hub.
According to Rightmove, the average price of a property in Worthing over the last year is around £396,795 and the majority of sales were flats. These, say the property website, sold for an average of £253,237.
In terms of an overall trend, prices in Worthing were up three percent in 2023 compared to 2022 and seven percent up on a 2021 peak of £369,157.
However, whether people are looking to stay or visit, there are a bevvy of things to see and do in Worthing alongside enjoying the local pier or revelling in the local beach.
Visit South East England recommended that Worthing Museum and Art Gallery or live shows at the Pavilion Theatres, Assembly Hall or Connaught Theatre.
Alternatively, if a walk in nature is more to one’s taste then the South Downs are almost literally on Worthing’s doorstep and access to landmarks such as Devil’s Dyke and the Seven Sisters Walk.
Inside worthing, the chalk gardens of Highdown Gardens in the Southdown National Park are worth a look alongside the English Martyrs Catholic Church and the High Salvington Windmill.
Highdown Gardens in particular has received positive reviews on TripAdvisor. Recent visitor Lydia R said: “100% worth a visit. Beautiful little garden with lots of interesting plants & pathways.
“Loads of volunteers maintaining the area, and it’s free will brilliant disabled access toilets. Also, it’s right next to South Downs Walk so excellent location.[sic]”
