The largest statue in the world, the Statue of Unity, is located in India and was partly funded by the UK.
This statue, which is twice the height of the US’ Statue of Liberty, has been met with criticism due to its hefty price tag, as it cost nearly £320million.
It proudly stands in India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state of Gujarat, at a bend in the Narmada river.
Construction, which lasted for 56 months, kicked off in 2012, when the UK sent India nearly £300m in aid.
While the UK did not directly fund the statue, the aid sent may have gone towards paying for programmes to help build the monument.
The towering 579ft bronze statue represents Indian independence hero Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of the country following its independence.
Patel was an Indian independence activist and barrister and served in these role from 1947 to 1950.
This statue snatched the title of the world’s biggest from the Spring Temple Buddha in Pingdingshan, China, which stands approximately 420 feet.
Modi was present at the grand unveiling in 2018.
A staggering 3,500 workers spent four years building the statue, which also resulted in a massive land grab affecting 72 nearby villages.
Tribal chiefs claim this forced thousands from their homes.
During its grand unveiling, helicopters soared overhead, showering rose petals as Modi delivered his speech.
