Picture this: you’re going through queues upon queues at airport security, eagerly waiting for the moment your holiday begins.
You might be the person that struggles through, chaotic and stressed, and piles the contents of your bag into a tray without a thought for the way it looks – or you might take a little extra care to make everything look neat and tidy.
But now, in a trend that could potentially make you miss your flight if you’re not careful, people on the internet are artfully arranging the contents of their airport security trays in an aesthetically pleasing way. Because why not make everything look pretty, right?
Posting on TikTok, @_shoppursue filmed herself and her friends carefully arranging their trays together paired with the caption: ‘POV: you’re determined to get the girls trip aesthetic airport tray photos.’
Naturally, everything was largely colour-coded, with one tray neatly filled with a pink bag and matching pink shoes carefully perched on top.
Elsewhere, @salindachai shared her determination to match her ‘airport style’ with the country she’s visiting, posting pictures of various trays she’s previously arranged – including one filled with blue Jimmy Choo shoes and a denim bag in the same tone. How’s that for organisation?
Even Faber Books has joined in, writing on Instagram: ‘Which book are you taking in your carry-on bag this summer?’ The post was paired with airport security trays curated in line with the vibe of various titles – including Sally Rooney’s Normal People and Eliza Clark’s Penance.
Meanwhile, @chelseaasoflate shared her top tips for seamlessly executing it, filming herself filling up her tray after going through security.
‘Step 1: go through TSA. Step 2: pick up your bags and move – important: GET OUT THE WAY,’ she advised.
The next step? ‘Set up your little tray to your heart’s desire,’ she noted, adding that ‘if you have time, set up a few different trays cause why not?’
In the comments, many praised her dedication to it – and were eager to learn from her.
‘I thought everyone was doing this before going through! So smart,’ wrote @adelialaughs, while @nicolacaiii said it was ‘so cute’ and ‘exactly how I pictured yall doing this.’
‘The way I’m always late,’ added @ihellaheart me, as @growwithgihan admitted they were ‘about to use the lid of a storage bin’ to try it out at home.
So, the next time you’re going through airport security, why not give it a go? It’s certainly one way to take the stress out of flying.
Skiplagging is a growing travel trend, and airlines aren’t happy about it
Looking to bag a cheaper fight? Of course you are.
One hack is now doing the rounds once again on TikTok, and it can save you money on your next holiday abroad – but it’s not a hit with airlines.
Called ‘skiplagging’, ‘hidden city’ or ‘throwaway ticketing’, it involves booking a cheap flight with a layover.
Rather than the layover airport merely being a connection stop, though, it’s actually your planned destination, so you never fly the entire route.
Since a layover flight further afield is often cheaper than a direct one closer to home, many seasoned travellers use this method to bag a bargain.
It’s so popular, there’s even a website dedicated to it called Skiplagged.com, which alerts users to deals. They say they’re ‘exposing loopholes in airfare pricing to save you money.’
