Interim Heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall reacts to the announcement of UFC 309’s main event between Heavyweight champion Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic
Following on from UFC’s historic event this weekend to celebrate Mexico’s Independence Day the UFC announced several fights. One of which was Jon Jones finally taking on Stipe Miocic at UFC 309. Tom Aspinall who is the interim champion of the division has been calling out the champion for a fight but has seen his request denied with the UFC stating Miocic would be the next contender.
Tom Aspinall has since had to bide his time on the side-lines as Jones picked up an injury which delayed his fight with Miocic. As a result, Aspinall has wanted to remain active in the division and has since defended his interim belt against Curtis Blaydes who he finished early in round one.
With the Heavyweight clash confirmed, Aspinall will be hoping it is just a matter of time before he can unify his title.
Tom Aspinall reacts to Jones vs Miocic announcement
The Manchester fighter has now expressed his excitement after Jones vs Miocic was announced. Tom Aspinall said; “What else happened was big Jon Jones and big Stipe Miocic matched up with one another. Finally, it’s official November 16th at Maddison Square Garden New York City. The heavyweight is on the line at long last. I of course will be there to watch these two gentlemen go at it.”
Tom Aspinall went on to say; “I have told the UFC if anybody gets injured or any other reason anyone can’t make the fight, I’m ready to go. I’ll fight both of them in one night no problem.”
“Give me my undisputed title because there shouldn’t be two champions in one division. This isn’t what UFC/MMA is about. There should be one champion in one division and I believe that’s me.”
The interim champ also revealed that he would face Jones vs Miocic’s winner. Tom Aspinall also reiterated that if either fighter were unable to make the fight he would be more than happy and ready to step in if required.
