Travel chaos at major UK airport as trains cancelled for entire weekend

Must read

Holidaymakers are set to experience travel chaos as Gatwick Express trains have been suspended for the entire weekend due to a points failure this morning.

Passengers commuting to London on the Brighton to London Victoria service are left in a quandary today as the service is unavailable for the whole day.

Adding to their woes, the Gatwick Express trains operating to and from London Victoria will remain out of service until Monday morning.

Gatwick Express confirmed in a separate announcement later on Friday morning that “no Gatwick Express trains will run to/from London Victoria on 12 & 13 October due to engineering works.”

Travellers are instead being advised to take alternative Southern and Thameslink trains which will run to and from London Bridge. Network Rail officials are currently at the site working to “rectify the fault”, the train operator added.

A post on the Gatwick Express page on X read: “Due to a points failure, Gatwick Express services that run between Brighton and London Victoria will be suspended all day today, Friday October 11.

“Journeys may take an extra 15 minutes than longer, so please allow some extra time and check before you travel.”

Tickets will be accepted for no extra cost on Southern services between Brighton, Hove, Haywards Heath, Gatwick Airport and London Victoria.

They will also be valid for Thameslink services between Brighton, Gatwick Airport and London Bridge/Blackfriars/Farringdon/St Pancras.

Gatwick Express also warned: “If you are planning on using Southern services as an alternative, please note they will also be subject to disruption.

“Southern services that run to and from London Victoria may be subject to amendments, meaning they may terminate and restart at a different station to normal, or will be diverted to and from London Bridge instead.

“Please ensure to check your service for any delays or alterations before arriving at the station.”
