Travel expert warns 100ml liquid limit is ‘burning a hole in tourist pockets’

Ambassador Cruise Line has highlighted the additional cost that many tourists are facing after a number of the UK’s regional airports reintroduced limits on the amount of liquids that can be packed into hand luggage.

The Department of Transport (DfT) announced that the old rule would be enforced from June 9, 2024, at all regional airports using Next Generation Security Checkpoints (NGSC).

A spokesperson for Ambassador Cruise Line noted that the disruption is causing more holidaymakers to pay extra at airport shops to make sure that they have all their essentials packed.

They explained: “The 100ml liquid rule, which has been re-introduced for passengers travelling from all UK airports despite the fact that many airports now have 3D scanners in operation, is seeing many holidaymakers shed out a small fortune in airport shops and duty free – with travel-sized minis costing on average 218 percent more than full sized products per bottle.

“Unless your facewash, sun cream and shampoo are all under the limit and can be squeezed into one small plastic resealable bag, the only option is to leave them at home or pay the price when travelling with hand or cabin luggage.”

To help make packing liquids easier, Ambassador Cruise Lines shared a number of essentials that can easily fit into the 100ml liquid limit, such as sun cream.

With many tourists preferring to visit destinations with a hotter climate during the summer months, it is vital that they pack some powerful sun cream to prevent sunburn from causing pain and frustration.

Whilst most manufacturers offer a wide range of variants, it is advisable that tourists buy a travel pack that has an SPF rating of 50 or more to avoid burning and the potential of skin cancer.

In addition, Ambassador Cruise Lines recommended that tourists should be considerate about the shampoo and conditioner that they pack for their time away.

Whilst hotels and most other forms of accommodation will provide their own shower products, many holidaymakers like to pack a scent that best suits them.

Generally, the company noted that it is a good idea to pack an ‘all in one’ bottle, which can be used as shampoo, conditioner and bodywash without the need of excessive bottles.

Finally, the cruise company reminded tourists that it is always a good idea to pack any condiments that they may miss during their time abroad.

Whilst almost all holiday destinations will have their fair share of ketchup and mayonnaise, more obscure condiments such as brown sauce and sweet chilli may be missing from dinner tables.

As a result, it is generally a good idea for tourists to pack any small bottles of liquid food items, giving them a small taste of home, even when they are thousands of miles away.
