George Baldock tributes

Tributes – including flowers and George Baldock’s number two shirt – have been laid outside Bramall Lane this afternoon.
Lyndsey Allison, 42, a lifelong fan and season-ticket holder, told me: “I was absolutely devastated, shocked, gutted, absolutely can’t believe it. he was such a decent person, he gave everything. He gave his all on the pitch, but was equally good off the pitch [with the fans].
“He was just brilliant, Mr Sheffield United. For a lad who wasn’t born in Sheffield, he was Mr Sheffield United and is going to be missed by so many, it feels like I’ve lost a friend. I know he was a footballer doing a job, but you could see it was more than a job to him. He’ll be forever missed.
“I’ve laid some flowers. It’s not something I normally do, but I couldn’t sit at home. I said to my husband, ‘I can’t sit here, I need to go down to the Lane’.”
