The most impressive venue in the world will host it’s first sporting event this evening as UFC 306 takes place in the Sphere.
Noche UFC is set to be a spell-binding spectacle and a once in a lifetime experience for fans watching at home or there in person. The card and event will be a “love letter to the Mexican people” as quoted by Dana White. Mexican fighters are scattered throughout the card with nine of the ten bouts involving a fighter with Mexican heritage. The main event is one of the sports biggest superstars Sean O’Malley defending his bantamweight belt for the second time against marauding Georgian Merab Dvalishvili. In the co-main Mexico’s first female champion Alexa Grasso steps into the first ever female trilogy against Valentina Shevchenko the long standing queen whom Grasso snatched the crown from.
Ones to watch
On the main card an elite level featherweight matchup takes place, Brian Ortega takes on ferocious newcomer Diego Lopes. Originally set to take place on UFC 303 however, weight issues and illness ruled out the former title challenger Ortega. Lopes gets his second chance against a top contender after an amazing war with Dan Ige on 4 hours notice. Kicking off the card is the rosters youngest fighter Raul Rosas Jr as he aims to build on a positive UFC career so far. At only 19 years old he is 3-1 in the UFC with three finishes he faces the vastly experienced Aoriqileng, he has 36 fights in his MMA career.
Lightweights throw down in two stellar matchups, both facing off Mexico with South America. Manuel Torres is a violent finisher with a 100% 1st round finish rate in his trio of UFC bouts. However, he faces 6ft 3 Chilean Ignacio Bahamondes whom possesses some of the best highlight reel KOs on the roster. Bahamondes is six fights deep in his UFC tenure and this is a chance to spoil the party and make a name for himself. On the main card Mexico’s ‘Golden Boy’ Daniel Zellhuber boasts a record of 15-1 and has impressed since his UFC debut defeat. Similarly, his opponent suffered defeat in his UFC debut and has since impressed. The Argentine Esteban Ribovics secured a knockout of the year contender back in May and wants to keep the momentum going at UFC 306.
