The UK business events industry generates £33.6bn a year, according to a report published yesterday by UK Events.
The report, compiled by Great Potential Consultancy, breaks down each sector’s contribution, with trade shows and exhibitions contributing £10.9bn.
Other business events generate £22.7bn annually, with conferences and meetings contributing £16.3bn, business travel meetings generating £4bn and incentive travel making up the additional £2.4bn.
When leisure and outdoor events are added, such as sporting, music, air displays and cultural events, the overall sector has an economic impact of £61.6bn.
Chris Skeith OBE (pictured), chair of UKEVENTS, said: “The UK events industry has faced unprecedented challenges over the past few years, but what’s clear from this is that we’ve not only recovered but are driving forward a growth agenda that will see our sector flourish in the years to come.
“The resilience, adaptability, and innovation within our industry are second to none, and I’d like to extend my thanks to all those involved in putting this report together. Their efforts provide a strong case to share with the UK Government as we advocate for the continued recognition and support of this vital sector.”
