Tintagel, Cornwall, is the birthplace of King Arthur and steeped in mystery and magic making it the perfect staycation.

While visiting the area, there are plenty of places to see from exploring nature and visiting beaches to learning about history.

But visitors in a rush to visit the popular Cornwall town of Newquay will probably not know the beautiful village of Tintagel is just an hour away by car.

While you’re there, seeing the castle is a must-do. This castle is unlike any other – it is located right on the edge of the coast and from the English Heritage spot you can peer over the cliff side.

It is located between Padstow and Bude and has an interactive map to help you make the most of your visit.

Its rugged landscape may mean it could be challenging for some so it is important to take sturdy shoes and wear clothing appropriate for wet weather.

The castle is one of the most famous sites in England and it is a site you won’t forget visiting.

You can also visit Merlin’s Cave which is a natural wonder of the area. The cave is linked to King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, including the mysterious magician Merlin who allegedly spent much of his time in this cave.

During high tide, the cave fills with sea water so be careful when you are visiting and always check you are visiting at the right times and during the right weather conditions.

To make the most of being in Cornwall, you should take a lunch break at one of the many local cafes and have a cream tea, cornish pasty or a scone. Tintagel Castle Beach Cafe is a much loved place to stop for a bite to eat among visitors.

If you’re looking for somewhere to stay in the area, the Camelot Castle Hotel offers sea views and a great location to explore the area. One guest on Tripadvisor said: “We recently had a few days stay at Camelot Castle, the staff members were very friendly and it is a beautiful place. We stayed in a family room with a sea view which was an amazing way to wake up every morning – the views were breathtaking.”
