Cornwall-based Origin Coffee is adding 2,000sq ft production space to its roastery in Porthleven to meet increasing demand.

The specialty coffee roaster, which recertified as a B Corp in February 2024, said increasing roasting capacity would support strategic growth over the next three years while strengthening its commitment to quality and transparency.

Origin Coffee’s Porthleven site now encompasses 10,000sq ft, supplying wholesale and direct-to-consumer channels alongside its seven branded coffee shops across Cornwall, London, Bristol and Edinburgh

“Expanding our roastery is not just about increasing capacity; it’s about deepening our commitment to the quality and transparency that have defined Origin Coffee for the past 20 years. It will allow us to continue to source, roast, and brew exceptional coffee while supporting our local community and staying true to our values,” said Tom Sobey, CEO, Origin Coffee.

The expansion, which coincides with Origin’s 20th anniversary, comes 12 months after the specialty coffee roaster secured £3.1m ($3.8m) to scale its digital, direct-to-consumer, retail and wholesale channels.

The investment – led by London-based investment firm Create Impact Ventures, dairy brand Yeo Valley and The Cornwall & Isle of Scilly Investment Fund – marked the first time Origin Coffee had sold a stake of the business. Sobey remains the specialty coffee roaster’s majority shareholder.
