The organiser of the world’s largest technology trade show has branded the British government “kind of crazy” for failing to support the event as strongly as international rivals.

Gary Shapiro, chief executive of the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), which runs the annual CES convention in Las Vegas, said it “doesn’t make sense” for engagement show to have dropped off, despite the potential of the UK tech sector.

The four-day exhibition showcases the latest technology from thousands of companies, including market leaders such as Microsoft, and has about 100,000 visitors each year. Shapiro said the UK used to be “much more engaged”.
