Thousands of British troops will continue to deploy to Europe over the next two months to lead a major NATO exercise. The UK is providing the greatest number of forces with over 2600 personal and 730 vehicles.
Throughout January and February 2025, NATO will conduct Exercise Steadfast Dart 25 to practice the deployment of the new Allied Reaction Force, which aims to reinforce NATO’s eastern flank. These exercises are to demonstrate the Alliane’s readiness, capability, and commitment to defend all of NATO territory.
The UK Armed Forces will be joined in these exercises by thousands of personal from ten NATO Allies, operating across Romanian and Bulgaria and coinciding tight the anniversary of Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Minister for the Armed Forces, Luke Pollard MP, said: “This government wants the UK to be NATO’s leading European nation.
“Exercise Steadfast Dart demonstrates our unshakeable commitment to NATO and highlights the UK key leadership role in the Alliance.
“As we approach the three-year anniversary of Russia’s illegal full-scale invasion of Ukraine, we must continue to strengthen our collective defences together to deter Putin effectively.”
Keeping the country safe is an integral part of the government’s Plan for Change and its pledge to keep the country safe. This exercise will consequently improve co-ordination and cooperation between NATO Allies, helping to reach these goals.
