UK town among ‘most affordable staycation spots’ has £88 two-night stays

Must read

Autumn staycation plans are well underway for many Brits, who are choosing cosy stays, comfort food and autumnal walks over sun-soaked holidays abroad.

A recent analysis conducted by the credit card company Aqua examined several elements including lodging prices, search trends, and weather conditions, revealing one seaside destination as the best choice.

Closely following the first and second place winners – Torquay and Blackpool – is the popular seaside town of Portsmouth.

The study revealed that a two-day stay at this budget-friendly coastal spot can be as cheap as just £88.

That is only £14 more expensive than the top-ranked option, Torquay, which boasts £74 weekend stays.

One of the standout features of Portsmouth in autumn is its stunning coastal scenery, where waterfront walks along South Parade Pier and the bustling seafront offer a picturesque backdrop.

In early November, the town hosts spectacular fireworks displays and bonfires, often accompanied by community gatherings and food stalls.

Visitors have sung their praises on travel website Tripadvisor, highlighting the local hospitality and pubs, as well as the quiet atmosphere to escape the hustle and bustle of big cities.

Christopher S said: “Old Portsmouth is a great place to spend a full day, you have the hot walls beach, the Cathedral and some great pubs which are child friendly, Still & West and The Spice Island inn are great if you like ships.”

Dean Nelson added: “A lovely place for a chilled walk away from the hustle and bustle of the city. A great selection of pubs, shops and places to eat.”

Hillary D highlighted: “We were visiting Portsmouth to celebrate my husband’s birthday.

“We walked to the old town from Gunwharf Quays in search of an independent pub, we found The Duke of Buckingham, excellent!

“We also walked to the old city walls and looked out to sea, lovely!”
