A BBC Radio Commentator, John Hunt’s family including her wife and two daughters were brutally murdered in their home in Bushey, United Kingdom on Tuesday (Jul 9). Since the gruesome triple murder unfolded in the eastern town of England, the local police launched a manhunt for the suspect named, Kyle Clifford.
Clifford, 26, was finally detained on Thursday when he was found injured near a cemetery in North London. He is currently receiving medical treatment for his injuries. It is not clear though how the suspect incurred those injuries, said the police.
Carol Hunt, 61, Hannah Hunt, 28, and Louise Hunt, 25, were found seriously injured at a house in Ashlyn Close, Bushey, Hertfordshire, just before 19:00 (local time) on July 9, and all died at the scene.
“Following extensive inquiries, the suspect has been located and nobody else is being sought in connection with the investigation at this time,” said Detective Inspector Justine Jenkins from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit.
“This continues to be an incredibly difficult time for the victims’ family and we would ask that their privacy is respected as they come to terms with what has happened,” she added.
Victims of crossbow triple murder
John Hunt is the main racing commentator for BBC 5 Live, the corporation’s news and sports radio channel. His voice is known to millions through his coverage of the world-famous Grand National and The Derby.
On Tuesday morning, his wife Carol and two daughters Hannah and Louise were attacked by an unknown man (later identified to be Kyle Clifford) with a crossbow in their house in Bushey, Hertfordshire. All three women died at the site.
A friend of Louise Hunt said he was “in denial” about her murder and felt “angry, sad and in shock”.
“I can’t even begin to imagine what the father’s going through,” said the friend.
Prior to the capture armed police arrived in numbers at a cemetery close to where a house was searched in Enfield. Officers closed off the Lavender Hill Cemetery and an air ambulance was also seen nearby.
Who is suspect Kyle Clifford?
As per early reports, Kyle Clifford, the prime suspect in the case, is a British Army veteran, who left the army two years ago after a short stint in 2022.
Footage from Sky News showed the suspect being carried on a stretcher out of Lavender Hill Cemetery in Enfield, which is close to his home and around 52 kilometres (17 miles) to the east of the site of the killings.
People in Britain do not need a license to own a crossbow, but it is illegal to carry one in public without a reasonable excuse.
The reason for the murders is unknown. However, Chief Superintendent Jon Simpson said at a news conference that police believe it was a “targeted incident”.
Police had earlier appealed for the public’s help to find him, but warned: “If you believe you see him, please do not approach him and dial 999 straight away. He may still be in possession of a weapon.”
