Must read

People are being urged to take immediate action to protect themselves and their belongings from flooding.

Across England, 128 flood warnings have been issued, which means flooding is expected in the affected area.

People there should move their family and pets somewhere else if possible and move vehicles to higher ground if it is safe to do so.

Important or expensive items in the home should be moved to the upper floors to minimise risk of damage.

Any protections in place at the property such as flood barriers or air brick covers should be employed.

A further 112 flood alerts have been enforced.

These are less severe, but warn people that they should prepare a bag with essential insurance documents and medications in case they need to leave their home.

They should also ensure they know how to turn off their gas, electricity and water in case of any building damage and plan somewhere else to go if their home is impacted.
