It’s yet another day of bad weather for the UK – but what happened yesterday?

Major incidents: There were two major incidents declared due to heavy flooding. One in Leicestershire and Rutland, and the other in Lincolnshire.

Trapped children: 50 primary school pupils were rescued in Edenham, Lincolnshire, after the main road outside their school was flooded, leaving them stuck inside the building.

Snowfall: Heavy snowfall hit the north of England and parts of Scotland, which caused power outages, school closures and freezing temperatures.

Travel disruption: Because of the snow and flooding, there were travel disruptions across buses, rail and roads, including Manchester Airport, which shut its runways temporarily.

Politics: Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said his thoughts were with all those affected by the flooding and thanked “responders working hard to keep communities safe”.

In the Commons, Environment Minister Emma Hardy told MPs flooding was “a personal priority” for her, adding that the Environment Agency was particularly concerned about Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Warwickshire and Nottinghamshire.
